You Don’t have to be be Star was a hit from a 1976 album produced by Billy and his wife after they signed a record contract with ABC Records that year. The album and that particular hit resulted in the duo winning a Grammy award as well achieving a gold album to match the gold hit. They golden couple went on to host a network TV show on ABC. The show called the Marilyn Mc Cool and Billy Davis Show aired in the summer of 1977. They were, in fact, the first African American couple to host a network TV show at a time when network TV was absolutely huge.

The golden duo signed with CBS Records in 1978 and released one last album together shortly after. However in October 2008, the duo came back together to record and release a collection of songs from the 1960s and 1970s entitled ‘The Many faces of Love’.
